Walk downtown & hop on the ferry. It takes 12 minutes to cross and you'll be on the Halifax waterfront with many shops and eateries. Treat yourself to an icecream cone and stroll on the scenic harbour boardwalk! A number of tour boats leave from the waterfront for you to explore and tour the harbour, see the lighthouses or experience whale watching!

A lighthouse tour will take you to Georges Island and from there to McNabs Island and to the lighthouse located on Meager's Beach also known as Hangman's Breach. The next lighthouse is at Chebuto Head at the very mouth of Halifax Harbour . The final lighthouse is located on Devils Island situated just outside of the mouth of Halifax Harbour. Very cool tours!

Warning

“The Maritimes have always exuded the quintessential briny vibe of clapboard fishing villages, cliff top lighthouses and town hall lobster suppers.

But there's new action brewing. From distilleries popping up that turn PEI potatoes into silky vodka to organic farm wineries that crush Nova Scotia grapes into sweet vino, gastronomes are drinking up the rustic region. Stir in the wharf side oyster cafes, mushroom foraging tours and farmstead cheese-making classes, and you have a scene of plenty between sips, too.

The tide is pulling especially strongly in 2012, when the Maritimes mark the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster."... Lonely Planet

The Titanic 100th Anniversary in Halifax, Nova Scotia

In 2012, the city of Halifax will be commemorating the 100th anniversary of the first, and final voyage of the RMS Titanic. The 883-foot vessel, thought unsinkable at the time, stood out for its opulence and technological sophistication. On April 14, 1912, The Titanic sank after colliding with an iceberg, approximately 400 miles south of the Grand Banks off the east coast of Canada.

Halifax has many connections to this disaster, and will be acknowledging the events of 1912 during the centenary of the Titanic.

  • 24 Titanic sites including the 3 Titanic cemeteries
  • Recovery locations
  • Many of the sites used to shoot the 1997 film
  • Well-known exhibit at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic
  • Titanic scientific exhibit at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography

What? The 100th anniversary of the Titanic, including films, exhibits, and other events. More details TBA.
When? April 2012
Where? World Trade & Convention Centre, Grand Parade, Halifax harbour front, churches, theatres, Titanic sites.

Thank you for visiting my art blog. I paint pretty much every day and have been posting paintings on here since March 2010. I check my stats and am so surprised at the number of people who stop by. Sometimes I see 300-400 people a day visiting my site and I’m (happily) shocked! :) Because of this I keep on painting and I am growing and learning as an artist. Thank you so much for the comments and suggestions I’ve received from you! In more ways than one they have been very insightful and meaningful to me. I have also gained a lot of encouragement through friends, old and new, because of my daily ritual of painting! You are all precious to me! Please feel free to be a subscriber to my blog.

I'm sorry but I could not keep up with the tags. Just not enough time in the day I guess!

About Me

I was born in Cheltenham England, but I've lived in Canada most of my life. Canada and specifically Nova Scotia is my home. I've had an interest in art all my life and my fascination is with watercolor. I love its brilliance and clarity and utilizing the properties of water and its effects. Therefore, this art blog contains only my watercolor paintings. I have a love for painting whatever inspires me and I'm happiest when I'm doing so! Thank you for the support and encouragement I've had from so many. My paintings have found their way into private collections of wonderful people, not only in Canada and the United States, but worldwide! Thank you for your support for Canadian art and specifically for Canadian women's art!
